Large squad end their first season with lots of tries
Heathfield Ball Grabbers 38 Burgess Hill Black Widows 10
In excellent conditions Heathfield’s season came to a happy end with a win for the Ladies as the BallGrabbers defeated the Black Widows.
Although this is the first season for the team, they have attracted a large squad and were thus able to help out the visitors who only had 13 players. Also injuries meant that several visiting players had to be replaced by Heathfield people but at least that meant that everyone got a game.
The first score came with a try by captain Ele Ross and then Hannah Chapman collected one and would have had another but for a foot in touch. Tries were also scored by Hannah Osborne, Faye Lawrence, Ella Hedley and Liz Ashworth with Danielle Cumberworth converting four of them. This was only Lawrence’s second game of rugby so this was a happy way to celebrate her birthday.
Burgess Hill did rally later on and secured two tries, one of them by Heathfield’s Keeleigh Harman.
Next season the team will be playing in a league so there will be many more matches and the proud record of being undefeated at home will be put to the test.
The team much appreciates the sponsorship by Gover Gym and OG Supplements.
Many of the players only started playing last August so the progress has been impressive. New players will be welcome irrespective of experience.
Summer touch rugby will soon start at Cross-In-Hand and anyone can take part – no matter what age, gender or level of skill. This is a great way to get into the sport.
