U8's Sussex Silver Finalists do their squad & club proud

Happy faces following close Sussex Finals.

For the second year running this squad had made it to the Sussex minis Finals which were held at Chichester RFC, a small matter of a 90 minute journey for these youngsters from home.

Apponents this year were Chichester, Hove, Eastbourne and Hastings & Bexhill. Our first match was against Hastings & Bexhill and as usual is a tight match while the players find their feet and get focused on the task in hand but with some superb tagging forced a turnover and produced a solid win in the end. Our next match was against Chichester which was always going to be tight and possibly the pool decider. It's fair to say this was an incredibly even match with some very passionate and determined play. We were level on Tries at half time but a couple of unfair decisions which went against us allowed Chichester to nudge ahead in the second half with a win and a feeling of disappointment from the lads didn't stop their drive in the following matches. They went on to beat Hove and Eastbourne convincingly with some truly incredible rugby from 8 year olds which you'd be pleased to see in the Premiership.

So with Heathfield having won 3 lost 1 it was down to the last match with Chichester against Eastbourne to decide our final position in the group. A win for Eastbourne would have made us champions of Sussex, a draw would have left us level on points and a win for Chichester would allow them to win the group by 1 point. Eastbourne put on a brave match and possibly their best performance of the day but despite all of Heathfield adding their weight to the Eastbourne supporters bench it wasn't to be and Chichester won but only just.

So our fate was decided and we would be second in Sussex having come 4th last season so a fantastic result. What was even more encouraging to see was the results table. Heathfield had the least tries scored against of all the teams only conceding 19 compared to Chichester on 23 and our Tries scored was only second by 3 so overall a brilliant result for the team.

Bring on next season !!!

Well done everyone for making a fabulous day all round.
