Heathfield & Uckfield v Worthing at Waldron Sunday 10th KO 1200
After a hard game at Pulborough in the previous fixture where the two fields are still learning each other’s strength it was nice to see such a positive game against Worthing!
The game started with Worthing looking sharp and Worthing didn’t hesitate in getting at field straight from the off and a quick score from the kick off gave the visitors an early lead.
As in recent games this may of affected fields, the girls remand positive and this group is beginning to bond and play for each other and with this the hosts quickly began to assert some pressure and made Worthing defend for long periods!
Close to the Worthing line ‘field lost control of the ball on several occasions but managed to scramble well and force mistakes from the Worthing back line who could not control the ball so well and after a few close chances the pressure eventually told and ‘field managed to the cross the line, this giving some much needed confidence.
The first half continued in this competitive manner with both teams losing possession at vital times but Worthing managing to score couple of converted try’s took a 21 -5 lead.
Towards the end of the half but with some good tackling in periods keeping the visitors pegged back, fields managed a try with Freya Scott-Taggert converting giving the hosts some hope going in to the second half 21-12 down.
The second half continued in much the same fashion with a lot of strong tackling and some excellent passing from both teams and despite fields going down 55-25 this game showed how much fields have come on in recent weeks, and how they stayed competitive right till the end, this showing in the final score!
The girls have showed significant improvement over the last few weeks and should be really proud of what they’ve achieved.
Finally we’ll done to Worthing who played some great rugby and looked a well organized team and particularly hard to breakdown.
Good luck to them for the remainder of the season they were a pleasure to host.
