A great tonic to overcome Englands defeat in the RWC 2015
- Mike Churchyard

Sunday 4th October and our first Festival of the U8 season. The weather was perfect with a slight dew on the grass which is always in its best condition at this time of year and the Sun was shinning and promised to remain for the day.

Some very excitable kids and some who looked like they could do with an extra hour or more in bed but the coaching team headed by James worked their magic with a short and sharp warm up session. This bunch of kids really are like sponges and soaked up everything thrown at them during a calm team talk before being split into their Hurricanes & Spitfires teams.

Both teams really did throw their hearts and soles into the competition with some stunning individual play and fantastic support by everyone. The Spitfires won their group by winning all of their games and the Hurricanes won their pool by winning 3 out of their 4 matches and only losing the one game by 1 point, This then came down to tries scored difference which amounted to 6 more than Haywards Heath who were runners up.

An outstanding performance resulted in both U8 teams coming home with 1st place trophies. A cracking start to the season and whilst it's not all about winning this is a fair reflection on how the kids are playing with their determination, passion and belief in themselves notwithstanding the dedication of the coaches to get them to where they are.
