Heathfield & Eastourne defy frost
Waldron sees comfortable but chilly home result
Heathfield 42 Eastbourne 10
Opting to play up the slope Heathfield 3s were feeling confident In front of s sizeable crowd.
Their results lately have been improving and they felt the first league win of 2017 wasn't far away.
Unfortunately we couldn't find a young fly half so Brady Burdett dusted off his boots for another final game.
The game started well with good pressure from Heathfield in the forwards. This led to quick ball across the backs giving Jonny Smith a glimmer of the try line which he duly went and found.
The next try will go down for the audacity of brady now 60 years old I think. To throw a dummy and walk in under the posts.
The groan from the crowd was obvious that back in the bar this would be relived several times.
Heathfield have run a scheme "return to rugby " and without it the 3s would not have been able to put out a team on every asking.
Richard Whiteman took the honours for the next try. With the back line linking well and strong running from Hallit and smith released Whiteman in the corner to score his first try for Heathfield.
Eastbourne fought hard and the forwards were well matched
Strong tackles from the back row ben jones, David Murdoch, and Johnny welch were stemming attempts from Eastbourne.
The visitors scored next after a spate of Heathfield penalties . But Jonny went over for a second just before half time.
Now going down the hill this game could have run away.
But with determination from Eastbourne and an ever increasing penalty count from Heath. The next 20 mins went to Eastbourne where they scored another try.
Heathfield woke up and ended strong.
With Smith getting his hat trick brady adding a 2nd
Hallit crashing through the centre for a deserved try.
And finally Whiteman getting his brace.
Special mention goes to Alex Palmer in the front row with his first game at tight head also return to rugby.
