This Sunday 10th March Heathfield hosted a friendly match against Shoreham RFC. The day started with the forwards training with Fraser, working on scrummaging. He got us to do tower of power, then 1-v-1 scrummage. Then there was practice for the front rows of the match with each other, this prepared us for the match to make sure our scrummaging was safe.
The match started at 12.15pm and was played in quarters, each quarter was 15 minutes long. This meant that everyone had lots of game time with rests in between.
In the first quarter Shoreham used their size to their advantage to score a try but the game was close.
In the second quarter it was more even with Heathfield scoring a stunning try, with Will Z dodging through the defence and scoring but Shoreham again used their size to their advantage to score a further try.
Leaving the score at half time 5-10 with Shoreham in the lead.
In the third and fourth quarter Heathfield seemed to lose their commitment conceding multiple tries though our wingers made a few valiant breaks but to no avail as there was not enough support. Near the end, there was a multi-phase set of play where Heathfield worked their way from Heathfield’s 22 to 5m from the try line but unfortunately Shoreham managed to turn over the ball and stop the advance.
Player of the match was Macs Cooper for his amazing tackling skills and a special mention for Piers because he made a number of good runs and took down the big guy!
