The ladies travelled to Lewes today, and in what can only be described as a very physical game, came away with the win. The greenies played hard from the off and good support play and rucking meant that Lewes had to fight back. Izzy Eyres had a fantastic day at 7, causing the usual disruption in the line outs and putting in tackles all over the place and was duly crowned joint forward of the day, sharing the honours with Becky Farrant, who also had a fantastic day in defence. As the whistle blew both teams were going into the second half with zero points on the board.
However this quickly changed when Hannah Davis stormed through the centre touching down underneath the posts. With the ref seeming to be a little harsh with timing meant Carla Monson was unable to take the kick 0-5. Hannah Osbourne made some hard tackles and was noted for her ball carrying leading her to make several yards on a number of occasions stepping around numerous Lewes players. Emily Sowell had another excellent day gaining yards and was noted for her great defence work in taking down players who had broken the gain line. Despite being tired at this point in the game Heathfield managed to keep the ball in hand to pass down the line where Hannah Davis was there to receive and once again storm through the centre to score 0-10.
It is safe to say that all the ladies will be feeling the aftermath of todays game, and will welcome the 2 weeks off before their last league game away to Hove on 15th April. This will be a crucial game to decide on League winners.
