Blackheath Ladies 10 Heathfield Ladies 80
In the first league match of the season Heathfield Ladies had an easy win against a weak Blackheath second team.
Heathfield travelled with a full squad but since, remarkably, Blackheath were short of players the game was played 10 aside. The visitors used the occasion to give three new players their first game and all did well.
On an excellent playing surface Heathfield’s strength and pace were too much for the home side with seven different try scorers - Emily Sowell, Izzy Eyres, Carla Monson, Skipper Becky Taylor, Hannah Osbourne, Katie Statham & Amber Lovick. Monson had an outstanding day with the boot converting ten of the 12 tries.
Eyres took one for the team when she received a yellow card after a succession of penalties against Heathfield. The coaches decided that Lovick was the forward of the day while Lizzy Norman was adjudged best back.
There will be harder contests to come but coaches Chris Ambrosino and Fraser Goatcher were delighted with the overall performance.
The ladies team are always looking for new players of all levels of experience: they train on Monday nights 7pm. Contact hp.hwrfc@gmail.com
