Guernsey colts started their journey at 6.00 am to play Heathfield Colts B team. As they arrived early the kick off was brought forward to 1.00p.m. Even the referee works during the week in Germany so it was a kind of international.
Because of the nature of the match the BBC came to report on the game and carried out interviews with 2 players from each side as well as some of the Coaching staff.
When the game got underway Heathfield were clearly the stronger team and dominated both possession and territory in the first half, and were soon 17-0 to the good. The pack had the measure of Guernsey's forwards and were dominant in the scrum and line out.
When the ball went wide the backs were able to make the most of the weaker defences of the Guernsey backs, There were some strong runs from David Bayly, Toby Warren,Joe Sanford, Jack kent and Joe Hastings. The forwards Andy Hinds Jack Fellows Ben smith David Vater James Morrell George Wardle and Jonny Welch all contributed with strong tackles and some good rolling mauls.
Tom Faraone did a superb job at scrum half ordering the pack about and getting the ball out cleanly to stand off Matt Barber who was in the thick of a lot of the action.
Tries were scored by Toby Warren (2),Jack kent (2) Ben Smith and James Morrell with two conversions from Matt Barber.
Guernsey voted Toby Warren as their man of the match
All in all a good performance which considering the lack of training a lot of the players have bodes well for future games. With some training they would be unstopable.Next Sunday the under 18's have a home friendly against Horsham and the Under 17's continue their unbeaten run in the National Cup away to Crawley
