Teamwork wins the day

In the final game of the season, other than tour, Heathfield put in a really strong performance at T Wells. Our hosts were struggling for numbers but still fielded a strong team, including our own Ethan Hands who volunteered to help them out in the front row.
The Hurricanes were on the offensive from the start and put TW under pressure in their own 22. The forwards secured and presented good quality ball and fast ball out to the centre, with some very nice footwork, saw us open the scoring under their posts with a converted try. Strong and disciplined defence kept TW in their own half for much of the first half and stopped their powerful runners from making any real impact. Heathfield did concede quite a number of penalties and TW's kicker did push them back repeatedly through these. The Hurricanes lineout was working well and secured all their own ball as well as stealing a few of the TW throw ins. 2 more tries for Heathfield, in opposite corners.including a very nice pick and go off the scrum saw the first half finish 21-0. The quality of the conversions was complimented on by our hosts.
The second half was a closer contest and TW made good territory with very direct running lines. Uncontested scrums gave them a platform to work off which they made good use of. Strong Heathfield defence prevented them turning this into points but again to many penalties were conceded by the Greens. Heathfield slowly got back on top and succession of forward pick and go drives before opening up the play saw a well worked try in the centre with forwards and backs working really well together. the hurricanes kept the pressure on and came close to scoring but for some poor handling. The pressure paid off and Heathfield did score twice more, despite being a man down due to a yellow card, to make this a very satisfying and convincing victory. 40 - 0 to us.
Well done Hurricanes!
