Heathfield & Waldron Rugby Football Club

Formed in 1979 by a group of local teachers, Heathfield & Waldron RFC has grown in to a club that represents everything that is best in rugby. Combining ambition and success with one of the warmest welcomes in Sussex, it is a club with the brightest of futures.

In the early days, visitors such as Brighton 5ths and Crowborough 4ths changed in a local pub, before playing on a sloping pitch in nearby rural Waldron. But rapid progress meant that H&WRFC quickly became a major force in Sussex Rugby. In the nineties, the club reached the semi-final of the Sussex Cup as well as the last sixteen of the national intermediate Powergen Cup. During this time the likes of Brighton, Lewes, Worthing, Haywards Heath and East Grinstead were all humbled by a local, village side.

Today a new generation of players are making their mark and delivering results, throughout all of the three senior teams. Last season, every team appeared in a major cup final with the 1st XV winning the Sussex Shield and finishing third in Sussex One. The strength of the club was reflected in the Sussex Club Champion Trophy where H&WRFC finished third.

Success for the senior teams is fuelled by vibrant mini and junior sections, which see 350 youngsters play and train for the club across all age levels.

The engine of such progress is a strong management team and a first class coaching structure. Last year, this was further strengthened by the appointment of a full time Youth Development Officer, who is also a former England under 21 international. Furthermore, with the recent acquisition of a field adjoining the main pitch, the club is investing in the infrastructure that will be critical to future success.
