Heathfield & Waldron rugby club has just completed its summer touch rugby programme that saw nearly 200 registered players take part over the 14 week programme. Touch rugby for adults now continues on Friday evenings, with anyone welcome to pitch up and play.

Hadon Westerby, the club’s rugby development officer said, “With less players on the field, there is plenty of space to run and pass into. Players have to become much better with their decision-making, passing and running skills. Not only has it been highly enjoyable and great for fitness, but the improvement in players between when we started and now has been huge.”

Touch rugby can be played by all ages with mixed gender teams a regular feature. The simplicity of the rules allows players to referee their own matches and play pretty much anywhere with teammates, family or friends.

HWRFC Chairman, Dave Rhodes said: “Any initiative which encourages people to become more active must be welcomed. Touch rugby enables everyone, young or old, male or female, to have a go, get fit and have fun. With England hosting the Rugby World Cup in 2015, and Rugby Sevens an Olympic sport in 2016 now is a perfect time to come down to Heathfield rugby club and to get involved with rugby.”
