U14s lose to Cranbrook

This squad friendly saw 23 of our squad play a very strong Cranbrook squad. The match was split into 4 quarters to allow all to play.
The early frost made the Waldron almost perfect and the sunshine on our faces was very welcome. This rosy glow on our spectators faces continued for the first 11 minutes. Indeed we could argue this was one of our best starts to a game this season. The pack competed well up front all day. Special mention must go to the front row of Jack L, Jack F, Bradley, George and Oli T for often driving a much bigger scrum backwards all day. Cranbrook then scored two tries and the quarter finish with the forwards again bossing around the ruck and Oli T drove over for a well deserved try. End of the first quarter the score was 7-12.
Then the wheels fell of. Poor tackling, lack of pace and general fitness in our backs meant the team shipped 6 tries. Ending the quarter 7-49.
The third quarter was much more competitive with both teams scoring one unconverted try. Our try came from a well worked rolling maul and was a true forwards try. Sam W, Sam T and Jack F all being around the ball as they crashed over.
The final quarter again was competitive with HWRFC losing this 5-10. Our try involved several recycled plays with the ball going doing the backs and the forwards then taking over. Oli T made some great yards the forwards recycled the ball quickly allowing Sam W to crash over in the corner.
On another day the tested the resolve of our squad a special mention must go to: Jack F for his positive leadership throughout the game, Bradley for his never say die attitude chasing their runners.
