U14s survive weather but are beaten by East Grinstead
Passionate and energetic Heathfield beaten by EG
We woke to an epic rainstorm. East Grinstead set off while it was still falling but by the time we kicked off at Waldron the pitch and the weather was playable.
The heavy (but perfectly playable) pitch, wind at 90 degrees and occasional rainstorm hand were all thrown at both teams. Once again Heathfield faced a physically larger side but played with a passion and level our skill that surpassed expectations. Indeed the game was a great one to watch.
From the first couple of mins Frankie stamped is authority on the game. A feat he repeated several times throughout the game. Making a excellent last ditch tackle that was one of the reason's he won the man of the match applause at the end of the game.
Within the first 10 mins EG scored two tries and controlled the game from this point. This did not dampen the spirit of the game as Heathfield dug deep to nearly score at least a couple of times.
The weather gods opened up with another deluge and EG extended the lead.
The match squad of 19 played well and notable performances from Ben sniping around the breakdown, Finn on the wing and Jack F everywhere was a real credit. Special mention must go to Jo, Kieran, Bradley and Toby who raised the performance of the squad when they came on.
On a day suited to hot chocolate, open fires and sowesters the boys deserved the lunch on the patio, warm sunshine and warmth of the club house.
