Good intensity and team work deliver the results for Hurricanes

A beautiful crisp and cold sunny morning at Waldron and Heathfield welcomed Crawley for a friendly fixture. The game was played in 3x20 minute thirds. Heathfield came out of the blocks with great intensity and soaked up some early pressure from Crawley to respond with a well worked try with the ball moving nicely down the line and some strong and direct running from the back line. Crawley responded with a try a few minutes later after some poor tackling by the Hurricanes who had let their concentration slip. Renewed focus from Heathfield with good and fast ball down the line put real pressure on Crawley. The scrum was solid from both sides with the ball going with the put in. Heathfield had the better of the rucks retaining their own and increasing turning over Crawley ball. This led to another Heathfield try, converted by Zak. The first period finished 14 - 7.
The second period, with a few substitutions on the field, saw the Hurricanes start strongly again. Crawley started to tire as the Heathfield pack got the upper hand and started to take ball against the head in the scrum and the breakdown. Heathfield stepped up their tackling and stopped some very strong Crawley attacks with front up and well executed tackles. This period ended 19 - 7 to Heathfield and it could have been more but for some poor handling, with 2 balls dropped over the line and 1 held up.
The third period saw the Hurricanes raise the intensity again and really turn the screw. The play started with some really clever passing between scrum half and out half which made the space for a great break away try. The team work and support play was excellent in the final period and the team played for each other with good support in defence and in attack. Strong running and good interpassing kept Crawley on the backfoot and resulted in 5 further trys for the Hurricanes, including a very nice play of a line out with he no8 breaking from the back of the maul. A lapse in concentration allowed Crawley to get a try back but Heathfield finished on a high with a good opportunistic try from open play with the winger being in the right place at the right time. This period finished 42-5

This was a very positive display by Heathfield and good practise for the upcoming Waterfall tournaments in the next 4-6 weeks
