The Hurricanes welcomed Haywards Heath for final game of the season on a bright but cold morning on Cypress. The game started with HH returning the kick off with strong running through weak tackles to open the score. This was followed by HH scoring a second try within the first 15 minutes by again exploiting poor Heathfield tackling and by exploiting the amount of time and space that they were allowed on the ball.
The Hurricanes calmed the game down and settled into their game and the remained of the first half was quite evenly matched.
Heathfield came out firing in the second half. The intensity and aggression surprised and rattled their opposition who conceded a number of penalties through ill-discipline. Heathfield took the game to their opposition and should have scored twice but for errors in the final stages. HH replied and using their size and weight advantage scored a try from a well worked penalty move in front of the Heathfield posts.
The Hurricanes raised their game again and despite keeping the opposition in their own half and pressuring the line, failed to turn the pressure into points.
The game finished 19 - 0 and the boys left the field disappointed not to have scored. The slow start and giving the opposition too much respect and time, cost Heathfield the game.
Our objective for this season was to finish in the top tier in the county, which we have. This positions us where we want to be for the league next season and we go forwards to that with a strong and solid squad who have learned a lot about themselves and each other over the year.
Well done boys ( and parents)!
