Heath u16s enjoy Allianz experience

This fixture didn't look like it was going to go ahead, with Saracens having unplayable grass pitches for a Sunday fixture and our pitch co-ordination guys having a nightmare trying to fulfil as many fixtures on our own pitches, we couldn't host Sarries.

Fortune favoured the brave and the possibility of a Saturday game at the Premiership leaders Allianz Park turned into reality on Friday.

Unfortunately not all of the squad were available due to other commitments, but Head Coach David Cook, took a well-equipped squad for a competitive game.

So, two mixed sides took the field on a bright sunny, breezy day.

Saracens made the early headway with some good direct running from their strong backs. They quickly got into their stride and scored 4 tries within the first 20 minutes.

Heathfield then woke up, the defence in the backs sorted itself out and the forwards gained some long sought after forward momentum. Some good short offloading and better clearance play Heathfield pulled back and at half time the score was 22-22.

Second half was a similar game with Heathfield playing into the wind, it was more difficult to clear their lines.

Saracens kept knocking on the door and scored two quickish tries. A few missed tackles were to blame but the boys kept to task.

Using the Saracens rush defence against them, Heathfield found some forward momentum and a really good kick and chase game.

The final score was 44-41 to Saracens.

A really good competitive game, played in fantastic spirit by all‎. It was a great experience for the boys to play on a truly fantastic surface. (see picture).

Sure the stands weren't full, but the game would have been a good spectacle if it had.
