Crawley 0 Heathfield & Waldron 36

Heathfield’s U15 demolished Crawley in an all round strong performance in which they put six un- answered tries against the home side.

Work done in the week on communication and team work seemed to have paid off with a more team orientated approach and perhaps a better understanding of each other.
Crawley were certainly the heavier pack and for once the Greenie’s forwards had strong competition at the scrum.

First blood came from a line out with the ball coming out quickly from scrum half Theo Michael with Will Ross playing at inside centre scoring. Chester nicely converted.

The second try was set up by Liam supporting Sam in a great run from deep, linking with the direct running of Chester Duff, taken on by Henry Paul, and finished off by Phil Sutton – the ginger ninja himself. Chester again converted.

Crawley were struggling to compete at the breakdown and the travelling Green Army wondered if the referee might go to his pocket to stop the consistent penalties given for holding on as the green forwards scavenged for the ball.

Another try before halftime saw blind side flanker Owain Groves burst from the loose link with number 8 Miles Geldart who drew the defender to put winger Tom Waites in to put the visitors 19 un-answered points up at half time.

Backs Coach Peter Benians rang the changes and his backs didn’t let him down, Shamus Smith scored from a charge down, Sam Benians converted. Sam Benians then scored himself after some further pressure from some pacey running from Caio Mann interlinking with the forwards. Last try was taken from a scrum, set up unselfishly by Liam Parsons who put scrum half Tom Taylor in for the final score.

The Greenies should be pleased to take the victory, score the bonus point and not concede a single score. On a day when you might expect the larger more physical team to grind out a victory on a wet claggy pitch, the visitors made the ball work through the hands to get the points. Man of the match was Liam Parsons whose support play and in particular reading of the game was immense.
