What a tough group!
With the sun shining in Hastings, it's was the first tournament of the year for this squad and what a tough pool we had drawn!
First match against Crowborough "A" was a wake up call. Individually the boys did great but as a team we were taking a while to warm to the new rules and contesting the ball at the breakdown. Despite making some great tackles, Crowborough were just very fast when the ball went to ground repeatedly turning play over and running in 6 try's without reply.
With some time before our next game we worked on speed at the breakdown and support play with our next game against hove looming. What a difference! A really hard fort game but awesome tackling from both teams and Hove just edged it by 1 try to our nil, we were unlucky.
Next up was a well drilled Eastbourne team with some players that would not look out of place in the under 16s! We fought valiantly and put in some crunching tackles against a much physically stronger team. Our passing game Improved as did communication but they were just that bit stronger and winning by 3 try's.
Last but not least we came up against our friends of last week in Lewes. A brilliant game ensued with great play from both sides, we were a little unlucky to loose by 4 try's.
It was a very tough pool against "a" teams from Hove and Crowborough and was defiantly the harder of the two pools drawn. We learnt a lot from today and with a mixture of experienced and less experienced players it was important to learn from each game, which we did. We were like a different team in the last game applying what we had learnt and the score line did not do us justice. With the ruck, maul and scrummage laws introduced this year it was always going to be tough, we will learn, train and come back stronger.
Thanks Hastings and bexhill, a well organised festival enjoyed by all.
