18 Hurricanes descended on Hastings for our first competitive fixture of the season. The sun shone and our spirits soared.
Our first match was against Crowborough and we hit the ground running. We rucked well and each player held their position. The forwards worked hard and it paid off. We were the winners by 3-0 and it gave us a great platform to go on from.
Our next match was against a very strong and well drilled Haywards Heath side, their As, but the squad were definitely up for it. Totally committed rugby which resulted in a 0-0 draw.
The third game was against Hove who have a lot of very big, strong players, but we matched their strength, we managed to ruck them off the ball and eventually outpaced them. The whistle blew with a win to Heathfield of 2-1.
Next was Lewes who we enjoyed joint training with last week. The forwards were ruthless in their commitment and strength, but adhered to all the principals with selfless play and served up the ball with utter quality which the backs used brilliantly over and over again. The game ended at half-time with a score of 7-0 to Heathfield.
So .... we found ourselves top of our pool which meant we went into a final against Haywards Heath As who we had faced earlier in the day. The squad were determined, committed and controlled. It was an intense match, but the team were magnificent and totally suppressed the opposition with aggression, movement and sheer discipline. We won the final 3-0 and bring back silverware to the Club.
A great day.
Well done to everyone, players, coaches, supporters.
