Under 12s Sussex Festival Winners!

An outstanding performance from the lads to top their pool then win the championship Final

Congratulations to the whole squad on a very complete performance at the Sussex Festival yesterday. There was a very good standard of rugby throughout and I had compliments for the maturity of our game from all the other teams there.
Match 1.The opening game against Jersey was very evenly matched and we had a good first half going 1 -0 up as a result of good line speed up in the chase and a committed rucking effort to secure the ball. 2-0 was the result of intelligent thinking, with a fast penalty and getting the ball down the line quickly. A lapse in concentration and slow decision making allowed Jersey to get back to 2-2 but a good start.
Match 2.The second game against the recently reformed Uckfield was more of an opportunity to move the ball around with strong running and good support in open play, and at the break down. 8-0 to Heathfield.
Match 3.After a short break we were up against our local rivals Crowborough which is always a keenly fought contest. They were difficult to break down at first and we were a little slow off the blocks, but we built momentum. Our defense was outstanding in this game and we turned over possession at the break down, moving the ball swiftly through our backs hands. It was a pretty physical game but we were strong and ran in 4 great tries without response from Crowborough.
Match 4.Our 4th game was against Hellingly. They put in a very spirited performance against us, and we let them disrupt our game for the first half. Our boys regaining their shape in the second half and scoring 3 good tries to finish 3-0 to us.
Match 5.The final pool game was against East Grinstead, who have improved dramatically this year and were a big strong and physical side. Our defence was solid, we used the width and ran out 3-1 winners.

Winning 4 and drawing 1 put us top of the pool and in the championship Final. Jersey were going to join us as worthy rivals having won 3 and drawn 2 of their pool games.

Match 6. The final was against Jersey, who came back more fired up and put in a really spirited performance. Our defence hit it's peak in this game and we made really good use of the fast boys out wide. Support was strong and rucking fully committed. 1-0 Heathfield.
Heathfield and Waldron RFC Under 12s Championship Final WINNERS! An incredible set of stats saw us scoring 21 try's in our 6 games and only conceding 3. This shows how committed and strong we were in defence but not at the expense of creative running rugby. This takes us through to the next stage of the competition where we will play the other district championship winners next month. lets hope for more of the same.

On behalf of the coaches and squad manager, a big thanks to the parents for your support. We are delighted to see the boys very deservedly win this tournament and we look forward to seeing this squad grow and develop and it sets us up brilliantly to make our transition into the juniors. Thanks to Uckfield and Sussex Rugby for organising a terrific festival enjoyed by all.
