U15s second league game of the season and the squad just manages to field 15 players with the captain of U14s as our reserve. A big thank you to Cameron Carr who helped us out and thank goodness he did as we would have played the second half with 14 and at times it would have been 13.
This week saw some changes in the pack and a marked improvement compared to the match against Chichester. Heath won a lot more possession and the likes of Ollie Hobson and Lawrence MacVicker were far more prevalent with Kotz moving to no 8. Rucking positions were better and so we managed to turn over a lot more ball.
Anyhow despite the above, ten minutes into a fairly even contest we saw the first signs of the very strong Horsham outside centre who ghosted through our centres and on to score. Heath then continued to come under presure but some crucial tackles, one particularly by Tom when their winger was one on one with him kept Horsham at bay. Strong defence by Rory, Lol, Kotx and Hobson saw us hold up Horsham over the line. However, the eventual pressure told and Horsham stole their 2nd try. 10 - 0 with 15mins to go until halftime.
A rousing chat by Smith and passionate shouting by Hallit saw the boys storm up field from the kick off. After an excellent period of sustained pressure and constant infringements by Horsham Lol went over the line. The crowd were euphoric only for the ref to say held up. Wave after wave of Heath's attacks followed but the boys just couldn't find a way over the try line. So 10 - 0 at halftime and all to play for.
A change at half time saw Cameron Carr take to the field.
Horsham's back were their best asset and soon Heath were turned over, Horsham spun quick ball again to the backs who passed it down the line and after several missed tackles by Heath's backline, they scored. A further try followed when Heath ran a penalty on halfway, when we should have kicked for position, lost the ball in contact and Horhsam countered. 22 - 0. The boys then fought back with ten minutes of pounding the Horsham line and eventually Rory Cramp stormed over under the posts and duly converted. 22 - 7, game on with plenty of time to make up the deficit. We won't mention going down to 14 players for a sin bin offence but we did, young flower.
Despite further pressure the boys were unable to score again and in the dying minutes another bit of Horsham possession, spun down the backline saw their inside centre score.
Final score 27 - 7.
Some gutsy peformances by all, the boys really bonded as a team and everyone stuck at it. Notable was Ollie Hobson, Rory and Lol. Callum H brought pace and power to fly half and linked well with Ollie W at inside to take us over the gain line.
