All credit to the Heathfield boys for digging in deep and for playing the whole game, especially as the weather worsened considerably towards the end.
Yet again, a lack in numbers saw the highly mature U14s captain, Cameron Carr take a step up to U 15s. Thank goodness he did covering so brillianty at inside centre with many try saving tackles.
Hove started fast with flowing rugby and quickly manoeuvred back row players into the centres. They combined with their backs which gave them an easy overlap for a few early tries. Heath appeared slow, disorganised but this was all credit to the strength, speed and pace of Hove. What a change from a year ago when Heath won at home, in the same fixture, so easily.
The second half continued in a similar vane to the first with Heath being totally outplayed by Hove.
If only I could report Heathfield going close to scoring but to each of the Heath's boys, Hove were bigger and fitter.
Having said that what a fine group of boys Heathfield are. Totally resilient and together as a team. Despite having little possesion, when they did, they played good, open, running rugby passing the ball wide. The major weakness was the rucking and yet again body positions too high that we were rucked off countless times and lost possession.
Onward and upward provided all the boys learn and develop from this game.
