Heathfield were totally out played last year by HH but what a difference a year makes. This year was a total role reversal against one of the top clubs in Sussex.
HH started strongly and were soon driving our forwards back and turning over ruck ball. How many times do Heath's boys need to be told about low body positions! It was so bad initially that the 'bard' had a nose bleed.
So HH scored an easy, early try. Heathfield on home ground, roused themselves and started to respond aggressively in the forwards. From our possession Harry kicked superbly to pin the HH boys deep in their 22 and after a Heathfield scrum with a deft back row move Heath scored through Lol. Converted by Harry.
From the kick off possession was won by Heathfield and following several phases of retained possession we saw Lol going over for a second try. Converted by Harry.
From kick off, things did not go well for Heath with a knock on from kick off, however, what transpired must go down as a try of the season. HH won the ball inside their own half and kicked forward near the Heath goal line. Callum gathered the ball and ran out of the 22 linking expertly with Monty who took the ball up to half way. From the ruck Tom 'flower' took a blind side run brilliantly up to the opposition 22 and gave a fantastic pop up pass whilst being tackled to Julian who finished it off under the posts. TRY OF THE SEASON! you don't get better than that.
HH were shell shocked by this and Heath quickly scored again twice after strong runs by Ollie H and big Si resulting in scores by Lol and an excellent exhibition of back play with Monty scoring under the posts. Monty had work to do but he is such a powerful runner no one will stop him.
Heathfield were playing just like they finished the last season with great running and passing rugby. 'Poetry in motion' one emotional Dad was heard to say. The Bard's nose continued to bleed.
Second half started slowly but a bit of pressure saw Heathfield with a lineout on the HH 22. A lovely piece of interplay between Lol and Harry saw a beautiful weighted chip caught perfectly and try scored. This was shortly followed by another try finished in his own style by Shanners.
For the first time this season we were nearly at full strength and today the team benefited greatly for having Harry and Monty back.
The parents and coaches could only muse on what might have been if the squad today had started and stayed together since the summer, it was beautiful to watch.
Try: Lol - 4 Julian 1 Monty 1 Shanners 1
Conversion - Harry 7 - FULL HOUSE / 100%
